Maharana Pratap was a legendary Rajput monarch whose name is associated with bravery. Maharana Pratap was born on May 9, 1540. His defiance of Akbar and the valour of his faithful horse, Chetak, are well-known. When others had conceded Akbar’s supremacy, Maharana Pratap valiantly opposed the Mughal Empire. A member of the Rajput clan from the Sisodia lineage, Maharana Pratap was a Hindu monarch. Because of his valour and bravery, he is venerated by numerous Rajasthani royal dynasties.

Maharana Pratap hailed from Rajasthan. His father was Maharana Udai Singh II, the reigning monarch of Mewar. Pratap, the eldest of 25 siblings, held the title of Crown Prince. Following the death of his father, he ascended to the Mewar throne.

He is regarded as a great patriot, having started the country’s first fight for independence. The Battle of Haldighati was fought between Maharana Pratap, the King of Mewar and the forces of Akbar led by Rajput king Raja Mansingh.

Even though Maharana Pratap was eventually forced to retire, he severely wounded his enemies and won great respect and appreciation for his bravery. As a result, his birth anniversary is observed as Maharana Pratap Jayanti every year on the third day of the Jyeshtha Shukla phase, which is the third month of the Hindu calendar.

After a hunting mishap in January 1597, he sustained serious injuries and on January 29 of that year, at the age of 56, he passed away.
