A 22-year-old from West Bengal got into serious trouble at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) after allegedly trying to open a flight‘s emergency exit mid-air.

The incident unfolded on an IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Bengaluru, with vigilant crew members swiftly handing over the individual to airport security upon landing, as reported by TOI.

Identified as Koushik Karan, the accused found himself facing charges under section 336 of the Indian Penal Code, cited for endangering others’ safety.

Seated near the emergency exit in seat 18, Karan’s attempt to fiddle with the door was promptly foiled by alert cabin crew members before any harm was done.

During questioning, Karan pleaded ignorance, claiming it was his inaugural flight and he was unaware of the protocol. He insisted his actions were unintentional, merely trying to stand up by holding onto the door. Karan, a first-year MCA student, had been en route to Bengaluru to visit relatives.

This isn’t the first time such a bizarre incident has unfolded. Just last year, a 40-year-old, reportedly under the influence, found himself in similar straits after allegedly trying to crack open an emergency door on a Delhi-Bengaluru IndiGo flight.
